Society for Indoor Environment (SIE)" a non-government-organization registered under Society Registration Act
XXI of 1860 on 3rd February 2017. SIE has all the representations from the pioneer and reputed research,
engineering, medical, and educational institutes in India, including IITs, NITs, CSIR-NEERI, EMC, IPCA, ICMR and
University of Delhi. The core group of SIE formed this organization to address the issues of indoor environment
as people spend more than 90% of their daily times in indoor environments. As per latest Global Burden of a
Disease report, indoor air pollution has been ranked as second largest killer in India. The air pollution
indoors is affecting the buildings and then the health, comfort, performance and behavior of the occupants in
such buildings. However, unfortunately, very less attention has been paid on this issue in our country.
Therefore, it has become the need of an hour to address the issues of indoor environment and to find out the
sustainable alternatives/solutions to save our indoor environments. The key objectives of SIE are as follows:
To facilitate local, urban/rural, regional, national, international and interdisciplinary communication and
information exchange by publishing and fostering publication on indoor environmental quality.
To organize Seminars, Meetings, Press-Conferences and other lawful gatherings from time to time.
To organize/conduct research & development in IEQ to fill the gaps and provide sustainable solutions for the
welfare of society.
To involve in environmental education and dissemination in the fields of indoor environmental science,
technology and policy with schools, colleges and other educational institutes.
To take up effective, reasonable and lawful steps for the solution for the problems relating to environment
protection.
To organize training, workshops and seminars to bring together different stakeholders (scientists,
technologists, engineers, architects, lawyers, epidemiologist, activists and others) to interact and share
their knowledge in IEQ.
To develop guidelines, which will help architects, contractors, and building owners and operators to move
beyond current practice to provide “Acceptable IEQ.”
To work for the preparation and implementation of IAQ Standards in India and other developing countries.
To work on IAQ-sensitive practices in building and system design, construction, commissioning, and operation
and maintenance (O&M) throughout the life of a building.
To Act as a knowledge resource for Green Buildings.
To publish Books, Chairs, Illustrations, Journal, Magazines, Periodicals, News Letter/Papers and other
publications on the subjected issues.
The society shall be a Non-Profitable society and all its acts/activities shall be done on ‘No Profit- No
Loss” bases.
To receive financial and non-financial assistance from Govt. Non Govt. Organization, International Agencies,
Banks and any other legal entity or individual.
To accept donations, grants, presents, gifts, and other offerings in the shape of moveable and/or immovable
properties for the attainment of the aims and objects of the society.
To do such other things/acts/activities which are necessary and which may be incidental or conducive to the
attainment of any of the object of the society.
The Society will invest its money and funds according to the Section 11(5) of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
All the incomes, earning, movable/or immovable properties of the society shall be solely utilized and
applied towards the promotion of its aims an objects only as set forth in the Memorandum of the society and no
profit thereof shall be paid or transferred directly or indirectly by way of dividends, bonus, profits or in
any manner whatsoever to the present or the past members of the society or to any person claiming through any
one or more of the present or the past members. No member of the society shall have any personal claim on any
moveable or immovable properties of the society or make any profit, whatsoever, by virtue of this membership.

Vision To remain foremost source of technical knowledge on Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), mainstream IEQ in education, influence national policies, regulations and standards on IEQ and bring diverse stakeholders together on a common platform and develop collectively holistic solutions
Mission To promote individual, community, industry and government's responsibility to create healthy indoor environments through multi-sectoral participation and awareness programmes.
Goal To reduce people's exposure to indoor environmental contaminants and minimize the risk of building related illnesses.
